What is MOTOTRBO™ Connect Plus?
MOTOTRBO™ Connect Plus is a multi-site digital trunking two-way radio system that enables you to accommodate a high volume of radio users over a wide-area with seamless coverage. Whether you have a small or large work fleet, Connect Plus can be scaled to meet your communications needs. Your work teams can talk to one another or the main facility and they can use data applications such as GPS location tracking and text messaging.
How does a Connect Plus digital trunking system work?
Connect Plus utilizes a controller to efficiently manage voice and data communication on the system and delivers key trunking features such as priority, queuing and dynamic site roaming. With the use of one talk path as the dedicated control slot, Connect Plus provides 29 talk paths per site for voice and data communication, enabling up to 2,900 users to operate at each site. With operation at up to 20 sites, Connect Plus provides a wide-area communication solution for users with a large mobile workforce such as utilities, public service, waste management and transportation organizations.
I'm currently using Industrial Communications' 900MHz analog trunking system; can I use MOTOTRBO™ radios on this system?
Yes, MOTOTRBO™ radios are flexible. They can be configured to operate in analog mode on your existing analog trunking system or in digital mode on the new digital Connect Plus system. For example, you can purchase MOTOTRBO™ radios now and use them on your current 900MHz analog system. When you are ready to upgrade to digital, you can use these same radios, with only a software upgrade at no cost to you, to take advantage of the many benefits of digital technology.
Does MOTOTRBO™ replace any current Motorola models?
Yes, Mototrbo 900MHz radios are a replacement to the following 900MHz analog trunked radios that currently work on our analog network but are no longer available from Motorola: Maxtrax, GTX, and MTX series radios. The Mototrbo 900MHz radio in the analog mode replaces these radios for the use on our analog network and can be software upgradeable to digital when you are ready to migrate.
How does Connect Plus fit within the MOTOTRBO™ solutions?
The MOTOTRBO™ platform was developed and has continued to evolve to meet the specific needs of group oriented and dispatch environments. MOTOTRBO™ Connect Plus delivers the ability to tailor a two-way radio solution into a 900MHz trunked system to meet the needs of businesses with voice and data communications over a wide-area and with many digital features.
What standard is MOTOTRBO™ based on?
MOTOTRBO™ is designed to the globally-recognized European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier 2 standard for organization/business mobile radio. The DMR Association is the body that represents companies and organizations manufacturing DMR equipment, supplying related products and services or supporting the standard in other ways. This provides an open platform that enables market acceptance and multi-vendor interoperability for voice and data and will assure competitive pricing while protecting customer investment. Motorola is a founding member of the DMR Association and continues to be an active contributor to DMR standards definition and development. Why TDMA and how does TDMA differ from FDMA?
Frequency-Division Multiple-Access (FDMA) splits the channel frequency itself into two smaller sub-channels that can carry separate calls side-by-side. By comparison, Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) preserves the full channel width, but divides it into alternating time slots that can each carry an individual call. Motorola maintains that two-slot 12.5 kHz TDMA-based systems, providing 6.25 kHz equivalency, are the better choice for most business radio users. Wireless standards based on TDMA technology are already widely used around the world, and future requirements for even greater spectral efficiency also are expected to be based on TDMA. TDMA technology for narrowband 12.5 KHz (6.25 equivalent-6.25e) organization/business radio users, provides advantages of feature flexibility, lower equipment costs, longer battery life, future-readiness, and the proven ability to increase spectrum efficiency without risking increased congestion or interference.
What is meant by MOTOTRBO™'s increased capacity and spectrum efficiency?
MOTOTRBO™ delivers improved spectrum efficiency compared to analog radios and alternative digital offerings, by doubling channel capacity, supporting more users, and enabling more information to be transmitted on existing frequencies. MOTOTRBO™'s spectrum efficiency doubles the number of user's organizations and businesses can support on a single licensed 12.5 kHz channel. Digital two-way radio solutions based on Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) technology enable two virtual channels within a single 12.5 kHz licensed repeater channel. This provides twice the calling capacity for the price of one license and enables more information to be transmitted on existing frequencies. And because there's only one "real channel", a second call doesn't require a second repeater.
Are advanced applications available in the Connect Plus digital system?
Yes, MOTOTRBO™ Location Services and Text Messaging. MOTOTRBO™'s GPS location tracking provides the ability to track people and assets, such as vehicles. This advanced approach uses a GPS client and receiver integrated within both the portable and mobile radios, plus MOTOTRBO™ Location Services computer software. The GPS-equipped portable and mobile units can be configured to transmit their geographical coordinates at pre-programmed intervals on demand and in an emergency. The MOTOTRBO™ Location Services computer software provides dispatchers with real-time display of fleet activity on a high resolution, color coded map.
MOTOTRBO™'s Text Messaging applications include rapid unit-to-unit and unit-to-group text messaging between radios, between radios and dispatch systems, between radios and IP addressable devices, and to remote PC clients attached to radios. When used on their own, MOTOTRBO™ portable and mobile units also support built-in capabilities for free-form and canned text messaging between radio users and talk groups. The MOTOTRBO™ computer software application adds a PC-based, client/server software application for dispatch-oriented messaging to the system, which extends the capabilities of messaging to include communications between radios and dispatcher PCs. Further, the dispatcher PC can act as a gateway to email, enabling messaging between email-addressable devices and radios.
Are MOTOTRBO™ Connect Plus radios available with the Intrinsically Safe (IS) option?
Yes. MOTOTRBO™ Connect Plus radios are available from the factory with the Intrinsically Safe option when ordered with the proper battery option (QA00366). The radios will be labeled as FM and CSA approved in accordance with Canada and US Codes as intrinsically safe for use in Class I, II, III, Division 1, Groups C, D, E, F, G, and Class I Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D.
